In August our beloved partner Knits and Notes will fill a pop-up at our studio at Van der Hoopstraat 84H in collaboration with 4 really special crochet designers. Expect reduced prices in their amazing patterns, but also in-depth workshops, a yarn swap and special maker event.
One of the workshops is by talented designer Nastja. Follow her intermediate workshop on Sunday August 10!
Playing with Color: Inspired by her special Riscas Vest, this workshop explores how to use stripes creatively in crochet through color changes, spacing, and stitch choice. We’ll make a striped placemat (or a cap holder, depending on the pace).
Materials and tools included. Materials (different types of yarn) by Scheepjes.
About Nastja
Nastja is a crochet designer based in Porto, Portugal, originally from Russia. The pandemic led her to crochet; she was living in the Netherlands as an exchange student, locked up in her student housing. Crocheting calmed her mind and soon became a passion. Growing up around fiber art in my mom’s atelier, she was always drawn to handmade crafts, but crochet felt special.
She left Russia after the war with Ukraine began, searching for a place where she could live and create freely. Crochet has always been her escape, but after leaving, it also became a way to rebuild her sense of home. She designs clothes and create patterns, which allows her work to travel far beyond where she’s been. Living in Russia, she often felt trapped, knowing there were countries she might never be able to visit. But when she saw someone from the other side of the world making her designs, it felt like she got to travel with them. It’s a connection beyond borders.
