Create your own handmade quilt! In this beginner quilt class, the stitches are what create the design of the quilt. Students come up with their own designs using stencils or geometric shapes, transfer them onto the fabric, and stitch by hand to complete their own throw size quilt. We will cover basting, assembly, and binding to create a unique finished product. The course is taught by Canadian textile designer Alice Tsibulsky.
This four-week course gives students an introduction to quilting by hand. Instead of focusing on patchwork, the design of the completed piece is created with the patterns made from the hand quilted stitches. The possibilities are endless for the patterns you can create, or else there will be templates available as well!
We will go through the steps of creating a quilt from start to finish, including basting, quilting, and binding. Each student will leave with a mini hand quilted sample, a work of art in itself. We recommend sticking with a smaller size (50 x 50cm) but students are welcome to choose to make a bigger or smaller project as  well.

> Intro to Whole Cloth – examples & samples
> Practice stitches on samples
> Discuss and apply design ideas
> Transferring design onto fabric
> Basting
> Stitching
> Binding
With this course the materials are excluded. You will get a little list with everything you need. You just have to purchase the materials, all tools and machines are included anyways. If you don’t know what to buy, you can also purchase all materials in our little store.  Then you can choose between different organic fabrics. The batting we sell is an soya/cotton-mix, so all materials are animal-free as well (so no wool is used).*
About Alice
Alice Tsibulsky is a textile artist with a background in cultural and environmental anthropology. She completed a Fibre Arts certificate course in Canada and has worked at a sewing studio in Toronto for several years. She likes making all different things, but lately her focus has been on hand quilting and natural dyeing as means of slowing down and enjoying the process of her craft.
*Organic materials can be a bit more expensive, so if you want cheaper materials it is better to search materials yourself. After purchase of the course you can download a list with all the materials you need.
**This course is in English and not in Dutch.

Alice is a wonderful quilting teacher. She had tips and tricks for every stage of the process, and even brought in traceable templates to create a stunning design. I feel fully equipped to create more hand-stitched quilts of my own.
