Learn the basics of quilting while making a super cute cushion with an easy quilt block design.

What are we going to do?
In this one-day workshop, Ana will teach you how to create a quilted cushion using a quilt block made out of a mix of squares and the popular Half-Square Triangles. The perfect gift or addition in your living room! The final dimensions of the cushion are 45cm x 45cm.

What are we going to learn?
1. How to create the front layer of the cushion using a sewing machine.
2. The sandwich stage in which quilt top and wadding are joined together.
3. You will also learn how to quilt the front of your cushion using a simple grid design.
4. How to construct an envelope style closure for the back of your cushion.
5. Basic quilting terms, best tools for beginners and block piecing and general sewing techniques.
6. You will also leave the course with instructions on how to recreate your quilted cushion again at home as
well as a summary of everything else you have learned at the workshop.
Materials and tools provided in class:
> Quilting cotton to create the front outer layer for 5 or 6 people as well as wadding / batting.
> Quilting cotton or canvas for the back of the cushion.
> Sewing machine.
> Thread.
> ¼’’ and walking presser feet (that I can provide myself for everyone).
> Fabric scissors, cutting mat, rotary cutter and quilting ruler.
> Usual sewing tools: pins, fabric marker, unpicker, pencil, trimming scissors…

About Ana
Ana is a sewing and quilting teacher based in the Netherlands. She studied pattern cutting and professional sewing skills in the London College of Fashion where she started her own independent sewing pattern company, CocoWawa Crafts. Ana designs dressmaking and quilting patterns for the modern maker and loves many other crafts like knitting, embroidery and cross-stitch.
