The Sewing Café

Follow lessons in the Sewing Café and learn to make your own clothes!

Take sewing lessons in our Sewing Café in Amsterdam De Pijp! Similar to normal sewing lessons, you can reserve time slots with us in the Sewing Café. We have 6 tables with tools and machines available. Different fashion designers are present to help you with your projects at your own level. You can follow these lessons in Dutch or English.

Friday > 11.00 AM – 5.00 PM
Saturday > 11.00 AM – 5.00 PM
Sunday > 11.00 AM – 5.00 PM*

* During the summer months we will be closed on Wednesdays and Sundays but will reopen these days again in the Autumn!

How does it work?

Book a single sewing lesson

Book a single sewing lesson in the Sewing Cafe, when you need help with one of your sewing projects or when you want to repair your clothes with guidance. The price of the class is 19,50 euro per hour and you can choose yourself how long you’ll stay.

Buy a package of sewing lessons

It is also possible to buy a package of multiple lessons (which is cheaper per lesson):

> Package of 4 x 2 h: 152 euro (19 euro p/h)
> Package of 6 x 2 h: 222 euro (18,50 euro p/h)
> Package of 8 x 2 h: 288 euro (18 euro p/h)

Materials, patterns & tools

The use of machines, pattern paper & us of tools are included in the lessons. Materials you have to provide yourself are fabrics, sewing thread, pins and, when needed, sewing supplies like a zipper or buttons.
We also have a little fabric store at our studio, so it is also possible to purchase the materials there. Or we can give you tips in the lessons where to go for extra materials, if needed.

Cancellation

It is possible to move your class if you find out later that it doesn’t suit you anymore on a particular date. You can cancel the class max. one day before it starts and we can reschedule (but if you’re too late, you’ll loose the class!).

Levels

All levels of sewers are welcome in our Sewing Cafe! So if it’s your first class as a beginner, but also when you have more experience.

Beginner Sewing Course

We also offer two Beginner Sewing Courses in our Sewing cafe. In these workshops you can learn the basics of sewing, while creating your first projects! It is also possible to join if you’d like to freshen up your skills from the past. More info:

The Craft Café

Follow lessons in the Craft Café and learn to make your own projects!

Take crafting lessons in our Craft Café! New to De Steek and available in our new location in Amsterdam De Pijp, we have created a space where anyone can come in and learn creative skills like knitting, embroidery, crochet, punch needling, and weaving. Similar to our Sewing Café, you can reserve time slots with us. We have 6 tables with tools and materials available. Our crafting expert, Pip, is present to help you with your projects at your own level. You can follow these lessons in Dutch or English.
