2024 RECAP - De Steek Amsterdam

What a year this has been for De Steek. Here an overview of what we think are valuable highlights of 2024 at De Steek!

>>

Natalie, owner of De Steek gave birth to her daughter Lotus. Both are in good health and will be back at De Steek in February.

>>

This year we opened two new spaces in Amsterdam! One is our new office and workshop space for groups on Van der Hoopstraat 84H which is possible to rent for birthday parties and private workshops.

>>

The other exciting project is our new Sewing café in East. Here we offer sewing classes on Thursdays and Fridays by Andrea van der Kuil. If you are interested, more info about the classes here.

But next to these exciting new venues at de Steek, we have also been participating in projects outside of De Steek. For example. this year we participated in the first Zero Waste Week Amsterdam. Together with Gemeente Amsterdam we got the chance to offer three free workshops focusing on different ways to reduce waste in fashion.

We have hand embroidered live for a few great event partners like MaxMara, Soho House and none other than; Chanel.

Also, our embroidery machine has been on tour. We have been embroidering people’s initials live in stores and during events like Fashion Week Amsterdam. It’s always super fun and people love getting their items personalized by our machine.

We have also done a lot of upcycling workshops and events for different brands. One of our favorites was by the outdoor brand Arcteryx at Baskets store in De Pijp. Here we transformed deadstock and sample jackets and tents into tote bags.

For Adidas we did an in-store activation where we screen printed naturally dyed tote bags for their customers.

If interested in a BtoB (custom) workshop or concept, contact eva@desteekamsterdam.nl.

And, this year we organized our very first crafting festival! Together with partner Knits & Notes, we organized a Summer event called Knits & Now. An event that celebrated crafts like knitting, crochet and embroidery by bringing crafters together and offering additional crafting activities and a matching music program.

Last, but not least, we cannot forget our free Repair Café. For almost a year now, every Thursday we have welcomed people to come to De Steek to learn how to repair their own clothes. In total we filled 376 spots this year and helped this many people with their personal clothing repairs!! We are proud to say that this project is now extended for another full year every Thursday in 2025! More info about the Repair Café here.

Looking forward to a new year of exciting projects, lessons and events! We hope to see you at De Steek in 2025 ☺

All the best, Eva, Michelle & Natalie
