Beginner Sewing Course 1.0 – Amsterdam East

In this course you will learn all the basics you need to know on the sewing machine. In the first 1/1,5 lesson(s) you will make your first tote bag. After this we will start with your first garment and create your own skirt, t-shirt or (flared) legging!* You can choose between two types of skirts (wrap skirt or circle skirt), an easy to make basic tee (crop or longer, you can choose the length) or a flared/normal legging from the pattern collection of De Steek.

Follow this 4-week course on a moment of your choice, depending on the opening hours of the Sewing Cafe. The course is 2 hours per week. Guidance is provided by professional fashion designer Andrea. Classes are both in Dutch and English. You can start in the week of your wishes.**

You can choose to have the materials in- or excluded in this course. If you choose the materials included, you will get the organic materials to make your own tote bag and/or skirt/t-shirt/legging. For the clothing items you can choose the fabric yourself in our store. With the tote bag you can choose different colours of canvas fabric (organic cotton) and straps (hemp). If you choose to follow the course without materials, you will get a list by e-mail with everything you need.

How to book:
Choose your starting date in the schedule above and book the course. After this, you will receive a confirmation e-mail with a code that you can use to book your future classes.

Materials included?
If you book the materials included, then all materials for those projects are included. We have different types of fabric choices in stock for the tote bag. Because these lessons are held in our studio in the East, the choice of fabric for the clothing items is slightly more limited than in West (where our store is also located). We have these colors in stock for the garments as standard (but ask for the options if you have other wishes by email, we can bring extra from our store if we know in time):
> T-shirt: black, burgundy or dark green (black collar)
> (Flared) Legging: black, ocher yellow or dark green
> Wrap skirt: beige or dark blue
> Circle skirt: black, camel or blue

*We are not responsible for finishing the pieces in time. We aim for you to finish it in those 4 lessons, but if you have particular wishes that are slowing the process, it can happen that you don’t finish in time. If it is not finished and you need extra help, you are of course welcome at our normal sewing lessons to finish it. Please note that the 4 lessons entail enough time to finish two pieces: the tote bag and a T-shirt/skirt/legging, if you choose more than two, it can take a little bit longer to finish the pieces.

***Are you not able to come to one of your scheduled lessons? No problem, we can reschedule. Just remember: always cancel in time! Meaning: the latest 1 day before your lesson starts.
