Quilting Workshop: Make a Mini Quilt

This two-day workshop is perfect for beginners wanting to learn how to make a quilt as well as the basics of quilting from tools and materials to techniques, tips and tricks. This workshop is taught by experienced quilter and designer Ana Valls from CocoWawa Crafts.

What are we going to do?
We are going to create a colourful mini quilt measuring 50cm x 50cm, perfect for a gift, to hang on a wall or to place on a table or armchair.

What are we going to learn?
1. How to create a quilt top using a sewing machine and the popular Half-Square Triangle block.
2. The sandwich stage in which quilt top, wadding and backing are joined together.
3. You will also learn how to quilt it using a simple design.
4. After that, you will attach the bias tape to bind the edges of the quilt in order to finish it.
5. You will leave the course with instructions on how to recreate this Mini Quilt again if desired as well as a summary of everything else you have learned at the workshop including basic quilting terms, best tools for beginners and block piecing and quilting techniques.

Materials
All materials are included and pre-cut for this workshop. Included in the course are: fabric for the quilt top, the backing of the quilt and the bias binding, batting for the quilt, thread, the use of a sewing machine, presser feet, quilting tools, rotary cutter, cutting mat and the usual sewing tools.

About Ana
Ana is a sewing and quilting teacher based in the Netherlands. She studied pattern cutting and professional sewing skills in the London College of Fashion where she started her own independent sewing pattern company, CocoWawa Crafts. Ana designs dressmaking and quilting patterns for the modern maker and loves many other crafts like knitting, embroidery and cross-stitch.
