The beautiful days are coming, what a pleasure! It’s almost summer, so De Steek is preparing for the return of the summer program. Do you remember it? Last year we already organised it this way, where the aim is for you to do courses on different themes intensively over several days. In this article, get ready to discover some of the summer courses that you can find in our studio during July and August.
To whet your appetite, here are some examples of the workshops and courses that will be given at this wonderful time of year.
Sewing Workshop Series: Basics
If you want to learn the basic sewing skills in a structured way, the Sewing Workshop Series could be a good sewing course for you this Summer! You can book for the first course, the second or both. If you buy the two courses as a bundle, you get 10% discount. The dates for these courses are 11-14 July. The material is included.

Textile Coat of Arms Sewing & Embroidery Series
For the Textile Coat of Arms Sewing & Embroidery Series, each participant will explore and create their own representative symbols or story that will be stitched onto their coat of arms, inspired by Chilean Arpillera. Guided by the principles and tradition of arpillera, participants will be encouraged to make do with what they have at home and emotionally-recycle personal materials and textile remnants.

Lingerie Workshop Series
We also offer you to discover techniques for creating lingerie. With the Lingerie Workshop Series 1.0 and 2.0, learn to make your own lingerie set! Develop your own bralette or your own underwire bra (depending on the course taken) with matching briefs or thong with guidance of a lingerie expert. t’s possible in 3 evenings as a Summer Edition!

Pattern Drawing Workshop Series
Always wanted to make your own designs a reality? Or do you have difficulty to get the right sizes in the shop or with pre-made patterns? Than this workshop series is great for you! With this 4-day Summer course you can learn to draw all basic patterns in your own size. After we made your own size pattern we will be working on a prototype and make the piece perfectly fitted to your body. With these perfectly fitted basic patterns it is possible to make all designs in your own size.

Design Workshop Series: Trousers
And, you can also choose to Design and make your own trousers in this 4-day summer sewing course! This means you will not only assemble the piece, but you will also create your own pattern in your own design. We will start with a basic pattern in your own size and we will make alterations to the pattern to turn it into the pants of your wishes. Learn the basics of pattern alterations and sewing techniques that fit your pants.

Creative Summer Course: Mixed Upcycling Techniques
You already know a few textile & sewing techniques? Sewing, crocheting, knitting and/or embroidery? And you are interested in combining them and learning about designing by using these crafting skills? Then now it is time to play with the possibilities of doing so. Within this mixed technique upcycling course, we will play and experiment with old garments and re-create them into something new by using our various technical skills.

Summer Tufting Workshop Series: Beginner
In this tufting workshop you will learn the basics of rug making with the manual punch-needle technique. First, we will be learning the basic technique and discover the multiple ways in which tufting can be implemented in textiles. We will experiment with different yarns, punch needles, lengths and colors to discover various possibilities of creating structure, surface and image with tufting. At the end of the workshop you will have learned basic tufting skills and have made a work of your own.
